REZŪM Water Vapor Therapy
REZ?M is a non-surgical and minimally invasive procedure that uses the natural energy stored in water vapor, or steam, to remove excess prostate tissue that is heaping on the urethra or to de-dilate an enlarged prostate called “Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)”. This issue causes irritating symptoms for men like urination in urgency, hesitancy, frequency, and even fatigue of urinary flow. The REZ?M device is powered by convective water vapor energy, the Rez?m System delivers targeted, controlled doses of the stored thermal energy in water vapor directly to the region of the prostate gland with the obstructive tissue causing the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
To treat BPH. A urologist uses a catheter to inject sterilized water vapor into the prostate. The steam energy is released into the tissue, causing the body to absorb and shrink the excess tissue. This treatment process helps open the urethra and allows urine to flow more freely. During each 9-second treatment, sterilized water vapor is released throughout the targeted prostate tissue. When the steam contacts the prostate tissue, all the stored energy is released into the tissue. The urologist then will determine the amount of treatments the patient needs, based on the size of his prostate. Rez?m therapy usually takes about 30 minutes to complete and the patient can return home that day.
Most patients who have undergone the procedure will experience symptom relief as soon as two weeks, and maximum benefit may occur within three months.
Rez?m is unsuited for those who:
- Have Kidney function complications.
- With a urethral implant.
- With a very large prostate (over 80 grams).
The potential benefits of Rez?m therapy
- Minimally invasive technique: Rez?m therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require open-cut surgery. It leaves fewer scars or no scars at all after the post-procedure recovery.
- Effective:Studies have shown that Rez?m therapy can effectively treat BPH symptoms for at least 5 years. Up to 90% of the patients experience significant symptom relief.
- Less timing:The procedure is typically performed in an outpatient setting and takes less than an hour to complete.
- Safety: Rez?m therapy is a safe, effective treatment for BPH with good long-term results. The patients no longer need to take BPH medications. It is a safe alternative to traditional BPH treatments, such as lifetime medication or surgery. It doesn't require general anesthesia and even has minimal side effects.
- No long-term medications needed: There are no more BPH relief medications prescribed for the patients. Many people see improvement after the procedure in their BPH symptoms within a few weeks. Rez?m therapy can eliminate the need for long-term medications.
- Sexual health preservation: It preserves sexual function, especially in those patients without baseline erectile dysfunction (ED), and improves it in the patients with baseline ED.
- No hospital stay: It is an outpatient procedure; the patient can go home the same day as the procedure.
- No general anesthesia given: The patients will be given regional anesthesia by a urologist, so that the patient can be worry-free about the effects of anesthesia intolerance.
- Faster recuperation: The patients can usually resume normal activities within a few days of Rez?m therapy, while other treatments may require a hospital stay or several weeks up to months of recovery.
The success rate of Rez?m therapy
The Rez?m procedure’s success rate is great. Studies have shown that less than 5% of people need additional procedures or surgeries within five years after the procedure. About 10% of people need to take prostate medications within those first five years.
Though the Rez?m procedure is relatively safe. Nonetheless, there are still some risks, including; Pain or discomfort while peeing or ejaculating, peeing more than usual, having more urgent urination, blood in your urinary flow (hematuria) or semen (hematospermia), and in rare cases urinary tract infection (UTI), sexual climax reaches without ejaculation (dry ejaculation), or urethra narrowing (urethral strictures).
